A village church that has welcomed worshippers for more than 100 years is to close.
Leven Methodist Church in East Street was opened in 1892, replacing the original 1816 chapel on the same site.
At one point, Leven had two different chapels in East Street – the Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist. After the groups merged nationally in 1932, villagers decided to keep the building seen today as the sole Methodist church.
In the Driffield-Hornsea circuit newsletter, church leaders said: “We are sad to announce that the Methodist church is closing.
“Many will remember the Sunday school – both Methodist, and then united with Holy Trinity – and the Leven wives group who met on Monday afternoons.
“Unfortunately with our small congregation we can no longer manage the upkeep of the building, and so it is with great regret that the decision is made to ‘cease to meet’ and the church will close.”
The last service will be held on Sunday, September 27, in the form of a harvest festival.
Before that, the church will open on Saturday, September 19, from 10am to 3pm for a last look around, and a chance to buy jigsaws and books from its library and memorable items.
