Christmas tree festival aims to ‘get town talking’

By Rebecca Hannant

Charities, community groups and businesses across Withernsea are invited to a Christmas tree festival at St Nicholas Church.

The church will host the event on Saturday, December 16, and Sunday, December 17, and it will also be a chance for groups and business to network and share what they do.

Spokesman Darrin Stevens said: “We have over 40 groups that do a lot for the community, but they don’t talk to each other, which is something that I have picked up. They could mix and talk as some will have resources that others could notice and vice versa.

“We are quite a remarkable town, but how many of these clubs don’t know about each other and what they can share and do to support each other? The tree festival could be the catalyst for bigger community support just by talking. Equally they may not have any funds and the town’s people may support them when they visit the tree festival and find out more.

“We have 10 trees already booked in – this is an opportunity to celebrate your uniqueness within our amazing community. Let’s light up the town and St Nicholas Church in a festive show of your community.”

Admission to the event is £5 per person, with the funds going to St Nicholas Church and the war memorial clock appeal. Each tree can also have its own nominated charity box.

Light refreshments such as coffee, tea and soft drinks with hot mince pies will be available.
