Chippy gives away meals in charitable link-up with broadband provider

by Rebecca Hannant

Whiteheads Fish and Chip Shop in Hornsea is teaming up with KCOM to offer free meals to the first 50 people who sign up for the broadband provider’s services, while also supporting a local seafront charity.

On Friday, December 6, the KCOM team will set up outside the chippy from 4pm, providing vouchers for fish and chip suppers at Whiteheads for those who register with their services.

Whiteheads owner Geoff Whitehead said he would donate the value of the fish suppers to Hornsea’s Coastwatch, a volunteer-led organisation that helps ensure safety along the coast.

Geoff said: “KCOM contacted me and said they wanted to collaborate, so we said the first 50 customers to sign on with KCOM will get free fish and chips.

“I was walking along the seafront earlier in the year and bumped into someone from Coastwatch who mentioned their efforts. When I spoke to KCOM, the NCI popped into my head. KCOM said they would pay for the fish and chips, and I would give the money back to the NCI.

“It’s a good collaboration that is about giving back to the community. I already sponsor a lot of charities and sports clubs, but this one doesn’t get much support, and I thought it would be a good one to donate to.”

KCOM managing director Neil Bartholomew added: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Whiteheads to help support a great local cause like Hornsea’s Coastwatch station.

“What more could you want on a Friday night than award-winning, free fish and chips and the knowledge that you will be helping to save lives along our coastline?

“I’d like to thank Whiteheads for joining forces with KCOM for our first Hornsea FryDay and hope everyone who comes along enjoys their chippy tea.”
