Withernsea Carnival’s parade went ahead as planned after dozens of volunteers came forward at the last minute to save the event.
On Friday evening, organisers had warned that the highlight of carnival week was at risk of cancellation unless more marshals could be found.
The appeal was quickly answered, with more than enough people stepping up to ensure rolling road closures were safely managed.
Among the estimated 40 volunteers were around 10 members of Withernsea clean-up group TownSMART.
A Withernsea Carnival spokeswoman said: “It was just brilliant. The atmosphere is amazing. Everybody seemed to be smiling and being part of it was unreal.”
The parade formed the centrepiece of a packed week of events across the town, and activities are continuing in Valley Gardens this weekend.
There are a host of food and craft stalls and, on Sunday between 11am and 4.30pm, Fete Day competitions for adults will include baking, photography, watercolour painting, flower arranging and ugliest/heaviest vegetables.
