The gloves were on in Withernsea at the weekend as the town hosted its biggest boxing showcase yet.
Battle at the Seaside 2025 took place on the Hull Road playing fields and drew hundreds of spectators for a packed day of bouts featuring 22 local fighters.
Organiser Nathan Iley said: “It’s been the best event so far and we can only get even bigger and better.”
Among the winners were TJ Clough, Rob William, Vanessa Parish, Charmaine Masters, Josh Monkman, Carl Blyth, Kieran Carter, Thom McGeachy, Luke Smith, Lennon Hand and Nathan Iley himself.
Smith also went on to be crowned Best Male boxer, with Steph Simpson taking the Best Female title.
“There were no losers in this contest,” said Nathan. “There was some incredible boxing and they’ve made everyone proud.”
The event was made possible thanks to the support of volunteers, staff, security teams, medical staff, the compère, musicians, DJ, referee, ring girls, Seconds Out boxing ring hire, Timys Ice Cream, Withernsea AFC, Sweet Treats and a host of sponsors including Waxholme Self Storage, Cedarville Guesthouse, Pie Lady Farm Shop, Sand Le Mere, the Gazette, Greenwood Koi and Aquatics, Beast Burger and Multiskill Engineering.
As with previous events, the night had a strong charitable focus, with boxers choosing which causes to support.
Donations confirmed so far include £795 for the MS Society, £455 for Andy’s Man Club, £400 for COPD and cancer research, £250 for Birkenshaw Bluedogs U16s, £270 for East Riding Domestic Abuse Trust, £200 for Help for Heroes, £180 for a Crohn’s charity and £150 for a sarcoma charity, with more still to be announced.
Nathan added: “We are not a charity ourselves, but we’ve raised and donated money for good causes. The MS Society is particularly close to our hearts due to personal connections.”
Looking ahead, organisers have already pledged to build on the success of 2025.
“As with every event, lessons have been learnt and we’ll reflect on them for an even better event next year,” Nathan said. “We hope to see so many of you and many more back again.”
