Withernsea Boating Social Club has presented the organisers of the Blue Light Weekend with a donation of nearly £600 after a series of fundraising activities.
The main event was a comedy and music night hosted by local entertainer – and friend of the club – Mikey G, who gave his time free of charge. The club, on Withernsea’s promenade, also hosted a Deluxe Raffle as well as bingo and football card games and encouraged revellers to contribute to donation buckets.
Penny Spokes, of Withernsea Boating Social Club, said: “We asked for raffle prizes from the town and surrounding shops and we were blown away by the support we received.
“Nearly every shop and lots of residents donated multiple prizes and gift vouchers for their shops and services respectively. Mikey G offered to perform for free and helped so much on the night to raise more money.”
A total of £575.40 was raised, and the cheque was presented during a quiz and games night at the club on Friday, October 11.
Andy Medcalf, Blue Light Weekend event co-director, said: “We are hugely grateful to the boating club and everyone who donated to their fundraising efforts. Donations like this are crucial in ensuring next year’s event can go ahead and continue to support local lifesaving and emergency services.”
