Withernsea Boatyard Fishing Club has donated nearly £900 to Blue Light Weekend following a successful 2024 fishing tournament.
The club held three boat matches last summer, along with raffles, to raise the funds. The decision to support Blue Light Weekend was made at the club’s AGM.
Last Sunday, representatives of the club handed over a cheque for £875 to event co-director Andy Medcalf during a presentation at the boatyard.
Adrian Critchley, who heads up the club, said: “We rely on the emergency services in the boatyard – the RNLI is right next door and, as fishermen, we know if we ever get into trouble they’ll be there.
“Supporting Blue Light Weekend felt like the right thing to do, especially as the event celebrates the work of all the emergency services.”
Andy said: “Generous donations like this are essential for ensuring our event can go ahead and become bigger and better each year.
“Every penny we receive goes towards delivering the weekend, and it’s fantastic to have the support of a local club like the Boatyard Fishing Club.”
This year’s Blue Light Weekend takes place on Withernsea’s promenade on August 2-3. For more information or to donate to the event, visit bluelightweekend.com.
