Benjamin makes waves at regional championships

A 14-year-old swimmer from South Holderness Swimming Club has made the local community proud after achieving a bronze medal at the Yorkshire Championships last weekend.

Benjamin Roberts, who competes for the small, friendly yet competitive South Holderness Swimming Club, secured third place in the highly contested 200m freestyle, earning his place on the Yorkshire Championship podium.

Benjamin joined South Holderness Swimming Club at just nine years old. Like many young swimmers, he started as a “run-of-the-mill” beginner, requiring plenty of technical coaching and guidance.

However, from the moment he stepped into the water, his dedication and determination were clear. Through years of consistent training, hard work and commitment, Benjamin steadily developed into a strong and confident competitor.

His bronze-medal performance marks a significant milestone in his swimming journey, transforming him from a developing swimmer into a Yorkshire medallist.

The achievement is a testament not only to Benjamin’s work ethic, but also to the supportive coaching environment at South Holderness Swimming Club.

The success doesn’t stop there. Benjamin has qualified for every event at the championships except the 800m and 1500m freestyle, giving him several more opportunities to showcase his talent. Coaches, teammates and supporters will be watching closely, hopeful of more strong performances as the championships continue.

For a small local club swimmer to reach this level is an outstanding achievement, and Benjamin’s bronze medal serves as inspiration to younger swimmers dreaming of following in his wake.
