A South Holderness pub’s customers have shown their continuing support of its popular charity auctions.
Over the years the Blue Bell in Keyingham has run the auctions for different charities and the most recent one, held in October, saw more than £1,700 raised for the British Heart Foundation and Andy’s Man Club.
Auctioneers Ralph Ward and Phil Mortimer were kept busy selling dozens of lots, all generously donated for the event. They were assisted by Dorne Barratt, Heather Jobling and Tim Fussey.
Bar manager Linda Burkitt said: “Once again our customers have shown their support and generosity for charity. It was a great evening enjoyed by everyone.”
A raffle also raised £156 for the Hull Animal Welfare Trust.
Andy’s Man Club has free support groups nationwide, running every Monday from 7pm except bank holidays. In these groups, men can open up about the issues affecting their lives in a safe, judgment-free and non-clinical environment. The clubs are designed to be free of pressure – there is no obligation for men to speak, and they can simply listen if they wish.
With thousands of men using the sessions every week, and an army of volunteers on board, the movement is continuing to grow week by week. Members believe in the power of talking and that it is OK to talk.
There are some 300 clubs nationwide and, locally, the club meets at Withernsea Golf Club in Egroms Lane every Monday from 7pm to 9pm.
