Artist boosts Royal British Legion funds

A Withernsea artist has donated funds from the sale of one of his paintings to the Withernsea branch of the Royal British Legion.

Mark Fox, of Tower Littlewood Lodge RAOB in Withernsea, auctioned one of his pictures and donated the proceeds to the local RBL.

Darren England, president of the Withernsea branch, said: “I would like to thank Mark and the RAOB for all they do for me and for supporting this town.”

Meanwhile, Darren is launching a new project that will allow veterans to share their memories of service as part of an exhibition.

Darren, who is calling the project Pull up a Sandbag, said: “I am looking to do a small project for veterans in South Holderness where they put down some of their memories of their service which might include funny things, historical events or anything they would like to share.

“It can be a paragraph or pages long and hopefully have a photo of them in uniform attached.

“I would like to place a file on the shelf in the library so anybody can look, and people can add to it over the years.”

Darren says he also hopes to have the stories digitised and added to the archives at Beverley.

Anyone wanting to get involved can write their service number, rank, regiment and their years of service, and can write as much or as little about their time in service as possible. These can be sent to Darren at [email protected], or handed into Withernsea Library.
