Appeal after vandals target garden centre’s greenhouses

By Rebecca Hannant

Staff at a garden centre in Withernsea are appealing for information after bricks were thrown at its greenhouses, leading to high repair costs.

Workers at Lunn’s Garden Centre, in Piggy Lane, said they had been left feeling disheartened after the greenhouses were damaged over a period of three nights.

The centre is now calling on nearby businesses and households for information to find and stop the culprits.

A spokesman for Lunn’s Garden Centre said: “We come in in a morning and we see all the broken glass. The panels are not easy to replace, and they are very expensive. Now there are three that have been broken. It is very discouraging that this sort of behaviour happens. It puts Withernsea in a horrible light.”

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “We are investigating criminal damage caused to greenhouses at a garden centre in Piggy Lane, Withernsea.

“It has been reported that on three occasions someone has thrown items at the greenhouses causing damage to the glass panels. The latest reported incident was overnight on Friday, April 28, into Saturday, April 29.”

Anyone who has any information should contact Humberside Police on 101 quoting the log number 2300060754.
