A local punk-alternative band with more than 30 years on the scene have raised funds for a cause close to the hearts of many in Withernsea.
The Zynx recently staged a fundraising gig at Willows Club in east Hull, raising money in memory of Mark Ratcliffe, who died on January 2 while trying to save Grace and Sarah Keeling.
The incident claimed three lives and had a profound impact on the town.
Band member Dave Turley, of Withernsea, said: “The tragedy affected a lot of people, and we wanted to do something in memory of Mark Ratcliffe and for the RNLI, who were all heroes that day.
“We contacted Mark’s family, who asked for the funds to go to the RNLI. We managed to raise £555, thanks to ticket sales and a collection in the venue.
“We have close ties to Withernsea and were honoured to be able to present the donation in person at the weekend. The emergency services risk their own lives to save lives. It’s a very worthy cause.”
The Zynx have previously appeared at Withstock and the Great Newsome Festivale, and will return to Withernsea at Easter, performing at the Spread Eagle on Sunday, April 5.
