Man arrested after woman and child injured in crash

A man has been arrested for drink-driving after a child and a woman were seriously injured in a crash near Burton Constable.

Emergency services were called to the collision at about 4.30pm on Friday, March 6.

Police said a white BMW was travelling northbound along New Ellerby Road when it collided with a grey Toyota travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Toyota, a 53-year-old woman, and four children travelling in the vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.

It is thought that one child suffered injuries believed to be life-changing.

The 53-year-old woman and one of the children were treated for serious injuries that were not thought to be life-changing. Two other children who were in the vehicle were also treated in hospital.

A 44-year-old man, the driver of the BMW, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while above the legal alcohol limit and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Officers are continuing to investigate the collision and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time, is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 317 of March 6.
