Big surprise for Peggy

by Terry Bearpark

What Peggy Eves thought was to be a quiet day with a few visitors to help celebrate her 105th birthday turned into a large surprise party organised by her family.

Peggy lived in Easington until late last year when a fall at her home led to her moving into Tamarix Lodge care home in Withernsea.

Born in Skeffling, she has spent her life in South Holderness and lived in Easington for many years.

She married her husband Fred, a master gunner in the Army, after meeting during the war at a dance, and they went on to have three children, Michael, Tony and Joy. She also has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as a great-great-granddaughter, Evelyn, who was born in 2024.

Travelling has always been one of her loves and she has visited many places around the world, with South Africa being one of her favourites.

Peggy is not one for sitting around and is now enjoying the many activities on offer and socialising with new friends at the home. She has a very positive outlook on life.

Last Sunday saw some 60 family members and close friends visit the home to help her celebrate her birthday, with plenty of cake, refreshments, flowers and presents creating a real party atmosphere for Peggy.
