Christmas tree festival returns

by Rebecca Hannant

The annual St Nicholas Church Christmas Tree Festival will return to Withernsea next month.

From Thursday, December 4, community groups and organisations are invited to begin setting up their Christmas trees inside St Nicholas Church to raise funds for their own causes. The festival itself will open to the public later in the month.

Now in its third year, the event will showcase trees created by individuals, charities and activity groups from across the town.

Last year, 24 decorated trees were displayed, including entries from St Matthew’s Church, the Royal British Legion, RNLI, Tamarix Lodge, the Lookout group, Blue Light Weekend, Withernsea Carnival, Withernsea High School, the Churches Conservation Trust, the Cubs and Scouts, Pierrots, Aire Tackle and Supplies and the United Reformed Church.

Each group taking part is asked to contribute £5 towards their display. Donation boxes may also be placed next to each tree.

Setup will take place between Thursday, December 4, and Sunday, December 7, from 10am to 2pm.

The festival will then open on Saturday, December 13, Sunday, December 14 and Saturday, December 20, from noon to 4pm.

To take part, email [email protected] with your name, group name and preferred setup time.
