Vandals wreck bowling club lawn

by John Prince

A police investigation has been launched after a group of youths on bikes churned up the lawn in front of a sports club in Hornsea.

The damage was done to the Hornsea Promenade Bowls Club in Victoria Avenue around 8.30pm on the evening of Thursday, October 9.

The nearby bowling green, which is used for matches and social bowling, was not damaged.

Club secretary Peter Barker said: “It’s disappointing and it looks a mess. The lawn in front of the clubhouse and the car park, which is also grass, were damaged.

“We’ve got to the end of the season and we’ve reseeded, and they’ve now gone and churned it up and it’s unsightly.

“Someone from Neighbourhood Watch came out and scared them off. He said they were riding electric bikes and thought they had come from out of town. We’re going to wait now until next year to sort it out.

“It’ll repair, but it’s antisocial more than anything.”

Anyone who has any information should call Humberside Police on the non-emergency number 101.
