Hull KR sealed the League Leaders’ Shield with a dramatic 28-20 victory over Warrington Wolves at a packed Sewell Group Craven Park.
The Robins had to come from behind after Warrington opened the scoring on five minutes, Josh Thewlis claiming Marc Sneyd’s high kick to cross before Sneyd converted. Warrington pressed for a second soon after, but an obstruction denied them as Hull KR began to find momentum.
Rovers drew level in the 24th minute when Tyrone May broke through to score, with Peta Hiku and Arthur Mourgue involved in the build-up. Jez Litten had gone close earlier, and the pressure finally told as May’s converted try made it 6-6.
Willie Peters’ side then turned the screw, and on 35 minutes May’s kick across field was batted down by Elliot Minchella for Mikey Lewis to release Mourgue and Oliver Gildart, who sent Noah Booth over in the corner. Martin’s kick went wide, but Booth struck again just before the break with a cool finish after Gildart’s floated pass. This time Martin converted, giving Hull KR a 16-6 half-time lead.
Warrington rallied after the restart. Sam Stone pounced on a grubber to narrow the gap, before James Harrison’s powerful run set up Adam Holroyd to score. Sneyd added the extras to level it at 16-16, and on 61 minutes Dufty created space for Thewlis to score his second and put the visitors 20-16 ahead.
But the Robins responded in style. On 69 minutes Mourgue collected a high kick from Sneyd inside his own half, weaved through the Warrington defence and raced 80 metres for a stunning solo try. Martin converted to edge Rovers back in front at 22-20.
With the atmosphere building, May added his second in the 77th minute, dancing through a tiring Wolves line. Martin’s fourth goal of the night sealed a famous 28-20 victory.
The result secured Hull KR the League Leaders’ Shield, underlining their consistency across the season and sending the Craven Park crowd into jubilant celebrations.
