Lots raised for local veterans’ charity

by Terry Bearpark

While out for a New Year’s walk two South Holderness women, Dorne Barratt and Trina Beeston, decided they would spend the year fundraising for a worthwhile cause.

Calling themselves the Orange Nutters after the colour of the shirts they wear, the duo have worked tirelessly to raise cash.

Their latest event was an auction held last Saturday at Burstwick Golf Club in aid of Hull4Heroes, a vital lifeline for veterans, which ensures they receive the support and recognition they deserve. It is committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of those who have served the nation with courage and dedication.

More than 50 lots were on offer and thanks to the skill of auctioneer Ralph Ward and his assistant Tim Fussey, £1,755 was made from generous guests of the evening, which included a buffet supper and entertainment by Martin Jackson.

Helping out with the bookkeeping and cash handling were Heather Jobling and Pat Fussey.

Overall, the evening raised £1,882 for the charity, whose founder and CEO Paul Matson, a former serviceman, was present at the auction.

Dorne and Trina would like to thank those who contributed goods and supported the auction including Jones Butcher in Preston, Burstwick Golf Club, P&O Ferries, BMW Stratstone in Hull, Doreen Orka, Tesco St Stephens, Fresh and Fruity in Hedon, Jane Kinear, Hull4Heroes, the Comedy Club in Hull and Always A Rifleman, as well as everyone who attended or bought lots.

The results of their fundraising will be presented in December.
