Hornsea’s popular summer ceilidh is set to return next month for the first time since 2022, with all proceeds going to support the town’s independent inshore rescue service.
The fundraising barn dance, organised by Hornsea Ceilidh Band, will take place at Floral Hall on Saturday, August 9, with doors and bar opening at 7pm and dancing from 7.30pm. Profits from the evening will be donated to Hornsea Inshore Rescue, which relies on public donations to operate.
Live music will be provided by Hornsea Ceilidh Band, joined by guest musicians from the Well Dressed Band – a group based in the Peak District – who are donating their time and talents free of charge. A mix of reels, jigs, polkas and hornpipes from the British Isles, Scandinavia and Canada will get dancers moving, with a caller on hand to guide everyone through the steps. The event is open to all ages and abilities, and no previous dance experience is needed.
Tickets cost £10 (cash only) and are available from the Floral Hall café (north beach) or the Boathouse café (south beach), or by emailing [email protected].
Raffle prizes are also being sought, and donations can be arranged by contacting Alison on 01964 533957.
For those who would like to keep dancing, the monthly ceilidh class resumes on Monday, September 22, at Hornsea Methodist Church. Sessions start at 7.30pm, £4 on the door, with all welcome. Follow Ceilidh Class – Hornsea on Facebook for updates.
