An international artist who has chosen a Yorkshire seaside town as his base has now opened a new gallery in the resort.
Three years ago, Mark Fox, who is self-taught, moved from Derbyshire to Withernsea and has held two exhibitions at the lighthouse but decided he needed a new base to exhibit his work.
This has now opened as the Cheeky Fox Art Gallery within the Promenade Market at the north end of Memorial Avenue.
Last Thursday, in front of a group of well-wishers, town mayor Cllr Kristina Richardson was invited to open the new gallery.
She said: “What I particularly love about Mark’s gallery is that he has catered for everyone, offering such a broad variety of styles, tastes and budgets. From stunning original paintings and bespoke commissions to quality prints in a range of sizes and exclusive greetings cards, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
“The gallery is a fantastic addition to our town and is particularly special as it is currently the only dedicated art gallery we have. It is another wonderful example of the incredible talent we have right here within our own community, and I am delighted that Mark has chosen to showcase his work locally.”
Mark’s paintings and prints cover a wide spectrum of subjects, from straightforward views to subjects painted in his own unique way, including many famous faces.
The originals are transformed into prints which dominate the gallery and while many of the originals have been sold in this country and abroad others are still for sale.
He also sells high-class greetings cards based on his paintings.
The gallery is open from 10am to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday and examples of Mark’s work can be seen by visiting markfoxart.com.
