A new show telling the story of life in postwar Hull will be performed in Hedon later this month.
On Saturday, September 19, Hull Community Theatre and the May Geslins will present Dear Hearts and Gentle People, which is set in a fictional east Hull terrace between 1945 and 1951.
The show at Alexandra Hall, in St Augustine’s Gate, follows neighbours and friends as they cope with life after the Second World War, including the return of soldiers changed by conflict, the effects of rationing and the birth of the NHS and welfare state as Hull rebuilds.
Based on real-life accounts and archive records from Hull and Holderness, the story is told with pathos and humour, with songs from the period woven into the performance.
The show starts at 2pm prompt. Entry is free and no tickets are required.
