Humbleton pick up points in winning draw

WITH BOTH teams pushing for promotion, it was Humbleton who had first use of the Pelican Park track last Saturday as the first team locked horns with Pelican CC.

As is now expected, skipper Adam Dewson led from the front with an excellent 73, supported by contributions from Matt McIvor (15), Matthew Hutchinson (20), Ben Porter (13) and an excellent cameo innings of 34 from Karl Blenkin to set the home side a challenging target of 179 to win.

The welcome return of Matthew Hutchinson saw him claim 2-32 whilst Andy Harrison picked up another couple of wickets with 2-29. Pelican, after looking likely victors, were restricted by Humbleton taking wickets at vital times and they eventually came up three runs shy, giving Humbleton the best of a winning draw as the hosts closed on 175-5. All of the home batsmen got off to a decent start, only to be dismissed before posting a big score, Andy Roulston finishing as top scorer on 36.
