Hornsea Cricket Club
A CENTURY from Knaresborough’s Andrew Ward (115) condemned Hornsea to an uncomfortable journey all the way back to the east coast last Saturday, with the defeat leaving the Hollismen in real danger of relegation.
Richard Medforth picked up three for 40 for Hornsea but that was little consolation as the home side reached an imposing total of 263-7, which also included a fine 64 from Dave Girling.
In reply, the visitors were always chasing and they had little to cheer about when they were eventually bowled out in reply for 151, Knaresborough winning by 112 runs.
Beverley Town beat Hull by six wickets in another match played between two sides battling it out to beat the drop and this coming Saturday there will be a ‘winner takes all’ match between Hornsea and Beverley Town at the Beverley Cricket Ground starting at 12pm.
A win, a winning draw or a tie or even an abandonment would see Hornsea safe for next season but with so much at stake, it promises to be an exciting contest.
Back in April when the sides met at the Hollis Recreation Ground, Beverley posted an excellent score of 267-3, with opener Brad Dobson stealing the show with a brilliant knock of 162 not out.
However, Hornsea chased this imposing score down, reaching 270-2 in the 45th over, Paul Clappison leading the way with 110 not out, ably supported by Nick Dobbin (41) and Ash McKinley (58), a repeat result would be nice!
