Well, here we go again…

JUST over a month on from the end of the last football season, Easington United AFC are back in action, with a friendly fixture at Low Farm.

East Riding County League newcomers Kingfields FC visit the ‘Humber Riviera’ for a game against an Eastenders side comprised of players from across the Saturday ranks.

It will be a chance for first team boss Adam Jamieson and reserves counterpart Alan Wearmouth to cast their eyes over some of the hopefuls challenging for places.

Kingfields are an offshoot of the successful Queens County FC and are expected to provide a decent opening test, especially given the lack of training time experienced by the locals thus far.

With last week’s first session cancelled, the players will have had just the one full session at Low Farm (Tuesday) and a couple of Thursday night workouts at Hull’s East Park in which to begin preparations for the coming campaign.

Of course, some of the players have been involved in Monday night Floodlight Football League action at Hull University. Unfortunately, after an encouraging start, things seem to have taken a dip in recent weeks and on Monday evening the locals slipped to a second successive 3-1 reverse.

The latest of these came against Westella & Willerby U19s, with ‘Vez’ Verity netting the Easington goal.

With no games next week, the Eastenders return to action on Monday week (July 23) when they face bottom team Ladzio on the dual-use pitch (7pm).

Friendly-wise, the First Team’s schedule kicks off in earnest on Saturday week (July 21) when Hessle Rangers visit Low Farm. Meanwhile, the Reserves have confirmed Friday, August 31 as the date for this year’s annual Barney Moverley Memorial Trophy game against Roos. They are currently trying to sort a date with opponents Skirlaugh for the Andy Martin Memorial game.
Away from the action the Annual General Meeting, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 10 has been postponed and will now be held on July 31 at 8.30pm in The White Horse Inn.

The club is grateful for the offers of sponsorship that continue to come in. One area they are keen to fill is sponsorship of the Reserves’ new playing strip, as well as for a brand-new change kit, to be worn in 2018/19.
