Dunn rescues a point with late goal

Withernsea AFC  3

Hodgson AFC  3

WITHERNSEA had to come back from a goal behind three times on the 4G at Withernsea High School to earn a 3-3 draw with visitors Hodgson AFC.
The visitors took the lead in the first minute as a player capitalised on a poor backpass before Sam Mason popped up with a deserved equaliser after the home side had squandered a number of chances.
Despite Withernsea dominating the game, the visitors regained the lead before substitute Danny Frazer, an early replacement for the injured Everitt, tapped home from close range after a scramble following a Ciaran Collins free-kick.
The two teams went in at the break all square but the second half saw the game really open up with the match flowing from end to end.
For the third time Hodgson took the lead with a superb individual strike from the number nine who crashed home an excellent shot from the edge of the penalty area that beat Max Watling-Precious in the Withernsea goal.
The Seasiders went in search of an equaliser with Owen Mountain and Collins looking for gaps in the visiting defence and gradually the pressure paid off as the home side snatched a dramatic late leveller.
On more than one occasion during the 90 minutes Hodgson looked vulnerable at corners and with time running out, Withernsea were able to convert one as centre-half John Dunn forced the ball home from a superb Shane Spenceley delivery to tie things up at 3-3.
Rob Murray was Man of the Match but a couple of players let the side down. Withernsea now have a four-point lead at the top of the table following Harchester United’s shock defeat away at Middleton Rovers. The Seasiders will look to cement their place at the top on Saturday when they visit Sculcoates Amateurs Reserves.
