Vikings to invade

ON FRIDAY, May 11, the Holderness Vikings will send teams from the U8s and U9s (Pictured right) to Europe’s biggest Rugby League festival being held at Butlins in Skegness. The event run by ESF in conjunction with Leeds Rhinos sees over 150 teams and 6000 people compete at one event over the weekend. It is the first time Holderness Vikings have entered teams which in itself is an indicator to the growth the club is currently experiencing. With the prospect of facing teams from around the country and even from France it is a great experience for the young rugby players to be involved in. U9s Coach and Club Secretary Carl McFarlane remarked: “The boys are really excited to be going, but to be honest so are the coaches and parents. We’ve raised money so that we can contribute to the cost of attending the event as well as providing some tour t-shirts to wear.” U8s coach and Club Chairman Ben Rowe continued: “It’s a huge event and one we are pleased to be able to attend. We try to do as much as possible with the players which includes club galas and non-rugby days out; we were even in a pitch parade around Wembley before the Challenger Cup Final last year and this is just taking things even further.” The teams will take part in rugby games throughout Saturday and Sunday before a presentation on Sunday evening. The event attracts lots of teams and also a host of current Super League players attend the event. Holderness Vikings are always keen to welcome new faces down to the club whether it be at their free cubs’ sessions for three-five-year olds or any of their teams from U6-U16s, for more information visit www.
