New president for Hornsea

and East Riding Rotary Club

A HANDOVER meeting saw Rotarian David Lee becoming the Hornsea and East Riding Rotary Club’s president for the coming year, on Monday, July 1.

Thirty-one members and guests attended the handover to hear retiring president Kim Pugh thank the members for ‘being an inspiration’ throughout her year and working so hard for the various charities as well as the club administration.

She then handed over her chain of office to President David.

Then, noting the worldwide theme of Rotary International ‘Connects the World,’ he outlined his programme for the coming year.

Support will continue for the Rotary International’s campaign to eliminate polio, a task which is almost completed. Noting the number of natural disasters, Shelterbox and Aquabox will be helped, so that immediate response and aid can be given as required.

National charities and good causes, such as Marie Curie and Royal British Legion Poppy appeal, will also be assisted.

Local events such as ‘Youth Speaks’ and the popular disability games will continue to be supported, as will Hornsea Carnival, lights night, Last Night of the Proms and the one third marathon as well as Hornsea Youth Club.

President David said: “My chosen charity will be the Alzheimer’s Society. Dementia is one of the leading causes of death in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and poses a huge challenge for the Health Service.”
